How It Works
The T.A.M.A.R. Process
A biblical plan for healing and recovery
As I read the story of Tamar in 2 Samuel 13, God opened my eyes to see a five-step plan for recovery that could be applied in our classes and resources to assist survivors of sexual trauma. The steps are found in the acronym T.A.M.A.R.
*This program should NOT be in place of professional therapy. We are not doctors or psychiatrists. We are survivors that want to help other survivors.

TALK - We normalize talking about the experience. When we talk about things, they lose their power over us.
T
ACKNOWLEDGE - It’s okay to feel angry and confused, but it’s not healthy to stay in those feelings and allow them to control us.
A
MENTOR - Each volunteer is a survivor themselves. I want to show that your experience doesn’t need to cripple you. You can help others through your own traumatic experiences.
M
ACT - In classes, we focus on self-defense techniques specific to the age of the participant. We learn to identify red flags, get out of dangerous situations, and listen to our instincts.
A
RESTORE - Healing is a lifelong process. We help others restore their confidence in themselves by having them write a letter encouraging themselves for when the hard days come in their healing journey.
